George Clarence Swarts

George Clarence Swarts returned to his Heavenly home on December 25, 2020 at the age of 77. George was born on August 26, 1943 to Jack D. and Anna Maurine Wadsworth Swarts in Henderson, Nevada. His family moved from Boulder City to Las Vegas in 1949 where George would reside for the rest of his life. He attended Crestwood Elementary and Las Vegas High School where he met the love of his life, his eternal companion, JoEllen Mott Swarts.

George and JoEllen were married for eternity in the St. George Temple on June 27, 1962. He attended Idaho State University studying Pharmacy until he changed his major and transferred to Brigham Young University where he earned degree in accounting. He began his career as a CPA in Downey, California.

After just one year they moved back to Las Vegas where George began his career as a Las Vegas businessman. He joined Main Lafrentz CPA and later started the partnership Swarts, Bowler and Gamett before merging with Laventhol and Horwath CPA. His next partnership would begin with his son Curtis at Swarts and Swarts in August of 1995. George loved his professional career and found great satisfaction in his work. He continued working until his passing.

He enjoyed the many opportunities he had to serve his community in various positions. George served on the Gaming Commission at the request of governor Michael O’ Callaghan. He later served as treasurer of the UNLV Foundation among many other civic duties.

George was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he had many opportunities to serve. His favorite calling was as a youth Sunday School teacher. He also served as an ordinance worker in the Las Vegas Temple and was currently serving as a Pathway missionary, a calling he found extremely rewarding.

His greatest joy came from being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. George is survived by his wife of 58 years, JoEllen Mott Swarts and their five children: Kelli Harber (Rick), Curtis, Mark (Danielle), Michelle Simister (Doug), and Jill Ford (Scott). He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and his beloved sister Marjie Sue Broadbent. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Maurine, and grandson,

Steven Brock Harber.

George had a way about him. He loved big and was loved big in return. He was a man of great honesty and integrity. He loved God, family, and his country and took every opportunity to teach his children and grandchildren to do the same. He greeted everyone with a bear hug and many with a kiss on the lips. He never missed an opportunity to make you feel loved. He loved to travel, eat at the best restaurants and loved to shower JoEllen with gifts and flowers. He created lasting memories with his children and grandchildren through good food, four wheel rides at the cabin and corny jokes. George had a great sense of humor and his presence was larger than life. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2021, 11:00 am at the Monte Cristo Chapel 1801 S. Monte Cristo Way, Las Vegas, NV. A viewing will also be held that morning from 9:00-10:30 am. Interment will be held at Palm Northwest Mortuary 6701 N. Jones Blvd, 1:00 pm. We are eternally grateful for our beloved husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
