Gerald (Jerry) Lee Erwin, 78, passed away on Friday, July 7th, 2023, in Las Vegas, NV, after a long-fought battle with various respiratory issues and losing his beloved wife, Nancy Erwin, a little over a year ago. Jerry was born on October 15, 1944, in Indianapolis, IN, in the town of Speedway, to Benjamin and Mary Erwin. He has one older sister, Beverly, who passed away in 2011. Jerry’s winning streak started early in life when he met the love of his life, Nancy Lynne Erwin (Burton), while attending Speedway Middle School, which turned out to be the beginning of the next 60+ amazing years of their lives together. As Jerry and Nancy continued dating into high school, he was a dominating force as a pitcher for the varsity baseball team until an injury cut his major league dreams short. Jerry also played on the varsity football team as a wide receiver. Shortly after graduating high school, Jerry and Nancy were eager to start their lives together and got married on December 22nd, 1963, which was also Nancy’s 19th birthday. Jerry and Nancy went on to purchase their first home together and have their first son, James, in 1964. They had their daughter Jerri Lynne in 1971, relocated the family to Las Vegas in 1978, and had their second son, Justin, in 1983.
Jerry also had a passion for golf, and being the competitive and determined person he was, he excelled in it and enjoyed playing all the courses throughout Las Vegas, Indiana, and the rest of the country. Jerry was always a man of his word and never wanted anything free from anyone. He gained a tremendous amount of respect and success over the years by always speaking up for what he believed was right, always living up to his word, and being as reliable of a husband, dad, grandad, and friend as one could be.
Jerry is survived by his son James Erwin, son Justin Erwin, granddaughters Afton Erwin and Ashlee Erwin Menocal (daughters of James Erwin and Kimberlee Jameson Vargas), grandson Blake Barlow and granddaughter Brianna Barlow (son and daughter of Jerri Lynne and son-in-law Eddie Barlow), great granddaughter Amaya Newman (daughter of Afton Erwin and Calvin Newman), son-in-law Eddie Barlow (husband of Jerri Lynne Barlow), grandson-in-law Manny Menocal (husband of Ashlee Erwin Menocal), and the newest addition to the family, Manny and Ashlee’s baby girl Avery, who was born in July 2022.
Jerry is very loved and will be deeply missed by all his family and friends throughout the city of Las Vegas, the state of Indiana, and elsewhere. Jerry never gave less than his best effort, and he never expected less from anyone else. He was on a mission to get the most out of life, and he did just that. His strength, courage, love, and true friendship will live on forever in everyone who was close to him. He will now rejoin his late wife, Nancy, as well as their late daughter, Jerri Lynne, both of whom he has missed deeply.
