Gerald R. Klemme passed away on April 1, 2024, at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife, Yonnie, and his two children; Susan (Greg), of Las Vegas and Renee, of Melissa, Texas, as well as two grandchildren, Sydney and Patrick. His sister Karen, of Maryville, Mo., preceded him in death earlier this year. He is further survived by Carol (Mike) Williams of Stratford, Mo., Linda (Tom, deceased) of Maryville, Mo., and Rick (Joan) Klemme of Bellevue, Iowa.
Gerald was a proud veteran who served three tours of duty in Vietnam as an Army Sergeant First Class. Among other achievements he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal. He retired after 21 years of faithful service in 1980. After his service, he was a Post Commander for 18 years in Illinois, and he further volunteered as a military liaison for recruitment.
He and his wife Yonnie were celebrating 60 wonderful years of marriage this year. Gerald was instrumental in sponsoring many of Yonnie’s family to immigrate from South Korea to the United States.
Gerry, as he was known to friends and family, enjoyed watching NASCAR every Sunday, and he volunteered frequently with Yonnie's Korean American Women's Association (KAWA). He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for Gerald will be held Monday, April 15, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Palm Northwest Mortuary, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89131. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 9:20 AM at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr, Boulder City, Nevada 89005.
