Gerald Mandel passed away March 28, 2020 at 12:59 pm. Jerry was a wonderful man, born in the Bronx, NY on January 18, 1939. His father was a Jewish/Russian immigrant who came to the United States when he was 12 years old and his mother was born in New York City to Jewish/Polish immigrants. His parents worked hard to assure that Jerry and his younger brother Richie received a good education including music, art and religion. As a teenager, he played the saxophone and clarinet in a band but was a distracted student. His mother insisted that he get an education and a profession. So when the band was put to rest, he got a part time job at a pharmacy making deliveries. This sparked his interest into becoming a pharmacist. Jerry was always a hard worker. He attended and graduated from Long Island University of the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy. Jackie had a young son, Alan, from a former marriage who Jerry lovingly adopted. The couple remained married until her death in 1985. He then met a wonderful woman, Lillian Mandel, whom he married. He spent 32 glorious years with her where they enjoyed traveling, socializing, and going to the theatre. Their first few years of marriage they lived in Las Angeles. In 1990, they relocated to Las Vegas. He was a good and kind man and a wonderful pharmacist. His last professional years were spent working at University Medical Center. From his example, his daughter Abbie Purney became a nurse. Family was very important to him and he loved spending time with family.
