

Mr. Childers was 85 years young. He was raised on a farm until he enlisted in the Navy in 1943 at the age of 17. He was awarded numerous awards, ribbons and honors during his 28-year career in the miltary (Navy and USAF). He was a veteran of World War II where he saw too much action on the USS Ben Franklin, known as "The Ship That Wouldn't Die". He was a Korean War and Vietnam War Veteran.
He was a devoted, practicing Buddhist, receiving his Gohonzon in 1969.
He died peacefully at his home in North Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a native of Tippah County and was a son of the late J. B. Childers and the late Maude Childers.
Mr. Childers is survived by: his wife, of 58 years, Emiko; daughter, Kathi; son-in-law Robert Sherburne; grandson Klint Kester; (Klint's father, Mark Kester)l 3 great-grandchildren: Leilani, Kobe & Avery (their mother, Dawn Perez); son Joe & daughter-in-law Gloria; son Jason & daughter-in-law Tara; 2 grand-daughters: Maddy & Savannah; Savannah's mother Katrice Morris; his cat Minnee; and several nieces and nephews in: Texas, Oregon, Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee and Alabama.
Services will be held at Palm Mortuary. Mr. Childers will be placed to rest in his Palm Mortuary niche next to his son Jeffery in Las Vegas, Nevada in a private ceremony.
