When Gloria Don Johnson walked into the room, she had an infectious smile and always made everyone feel welcome. This was just one example of who Gloria was and how she impacted those around her. Gloria was a clever and gregarious person who always sought out the finest attributes in other people. It was as if Gloria wanted to share all of their experiences, revel in their lives and celebrate their discoveries. Gloria was tireless and had boundless enthusiasm that would serve her well throughout her life.
She was the daughter of Fred and Georgia Scott. Gloria was raised in Alexandria, Louisiana. She grew up to be quite a humorous person. While some who knew Gloria might describe her as an idealist, her friends and family understood well that Gloria was always in pursuit of life’s endless possibilities and opportunities available to her.
Gloria was a natural and creative parent who was willing to provide her family with all sorts of new and interesting experiences. Gloria was a devoted military wife to her husband, Thurston Lee Johnson. Gloria was compassionate and strong but always spoke her mind. Gloria loved her family and was very devoted. She instilled in her daughters to be spiritual and stand as a family.
Gloria was a woman who was dedicated and devoted to her faith. She was a member from Childhood to Adulthood at Rose of Sharon, USAF Chapel and TCFC. During that time, she served in choir, Sunday School as a teacher, Usher, Graduation Committee and Women's Bible Study. She was sympathetic and able to empathize with others and she used these qualities to the fullest while working tirelessly for her beliefs.
There was always a certain style and inventiveness to Gloria. She was a dynamic, self-expressive person who was forever looking to celebrate the endless possibilities life had to offer. She had a knack for being clever, creative and witty, and for others, was a joy to be around. While she was often fiercely independent, it seemed as if many others looked to Gloria Johnson for inspiration, leadership, wisdom and even courage. Gloria was always more than willing to share life’s experiences with her loved ones.
Gloria Johnson transitioned on November 18, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Thurston Lee Johnson, her parents, Fred and Georgia Scott; her grandmother, Isabella Greene; her brothers, Fred Scott and Billy Scott and her sister, Alice Scott and her granddaughter, Shree Carter. She is survived by her children, Georgia (David) Curfman and Gwyneth Johnson; her grandchildren, Ginger Johnson, Shavon Johnson, Simone Carter and Cole Carter; her great grandchildren, Anastasia Flowers, Bentley Flowers and Madeline Flowers. Services were held at Palm Northwest Mortuary. Gloria was laid to rest in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
