She was born in Emporia, KS on April 27. 1941. Her parents were Mabel and Curtis Triemer. She attended grade school and high school in rural Lyon County, K.S, and graduated from Emporia State University, Emporia. KS. She met Jerry Borders when both were seniors at E-State, and they were married after graduation in 1962. Jerry joined the U.S. Army immediately and after his basic training. he was stationed at Ft. Gordon, in Augusta, Georgia. Grace joined him there in a few weeks. He was then transferred to Ft. Benning in Columbus. GA., and Grace was with him there until he was sent to Vietnam. She then returned to KS to live and work for that year. He was again stationed at Ft. Benning. GA., so she also went to live with him there for the year until he was honorably discharged and they then moved to Salina, K.S. where he was engaged to teach. They lived there for three years, and their children, Tanya and Steven were born during that time. They moved to Bloomington, Indiana so Jerry could complete his Master's degree in teaching at Indiana University. Grace worked full time at the History Dept while they lived there. They moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1969 as Jerry had a contract to teach French and Russian at Western High School in Las Vegas. Grace was employed at several insurance agencies in Las Vegas until being hired by the Clark County Health District (now Southern Nevada Health District). She was there for nearly 25 years. working in several departments within the system.
After retirement. she was married for a short time to Peter DeGraff and went to live in Washington State and then in Weslaco, TX. She and Pete separated and the marriage was annulled so she moved to Wichita, KS to be close to family and friends.
She then moved to the Phoenix area and later returned to Las Vegas to finally be "home." Grace volunteered for Habitat for Humanity as a "Lead Cinderella" for 10 years, going to a ReStore 2 or 3 times per week. She was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is predeceased by her first husband, Jerry Borders, and by her parents, her brother Norman Triemer, and by her daughter, Tanya. She is survived by her son Steve and his family, At her request, no funeral services will be held. She has asked that any donations in her memory be made to Three Square or The Salvation Army.
