I am saddened to know of Auntie Harriet's passing.  I first met her in 1958-1960 when many, from the Islands, came to San Francisco, CA.  We later crossed paths again when she taught Hula and I was a member of her class in 1997.  She danced the Hawaiian Wedding Song at my wedding reception in 2002 and taught me a solo for my Gary and the guests.  She always had a smile on her face and it also showed in her eyes.  I miss her.

It saddens me greatly that although i have praised mrs Akiona all my life as the worlds very greatest teacher, and highest all around caliber of woman, that i waited until now to think of contacting her to send her my whole heart and tell her that SHE was the bain of my childhood insecurities and self erected obstacles. I was litte Haole boy, pahinui Bauckham and she always told me that my freckles were so cute and that id grow to be a handsome and well recieved man.1 outta 2 isnt bad!the eulogy hit it dead on. She always stood up for me and said i was her favorite student. I recall not having enough academic "Kala" to go excursion to KOEC so she quickly produced a test playing to my strengths and KOEC remains my greatest childhood memory. I love you aunty and i regret that i never shared that i was invited to sponsee at frank b shaner falsetto contest or that the little haole boy from kamauna garnered a standing ovation at a crowd of 3000 avid hawaiian music fans with my nahenahe "yanking" rendition of na pua ohe like, hilos flowery anthem. Grandma Harriet became my first mother-in-law when I married her son Warner in 1979.  She only had two children in her immediate family but was mother to many more, including her grandson, my oldest son Warner, Jr. (Warner-boy).  She loved all of her children with the best feelings of ohana and aloha.  She was the first person I went to for comfort when my own father passed away.  She was a great organizer, nothing held her back when she wanted to do something, and she could always be counted on for that impromptu hula when called upon, no matter the song.  We had our differences, as a mother-in-law will have with a daughter-in-law, but we loved her.

HARRIET was a very good friend to me and she and her grandson lived next door to me.I  could of not ask for a better friend she was allways full of love we talked each day went to the store together went out to eat. It will be hard whit out her she will be very muched missed we allways checked on each other cause we both had medical  problems.
She really carred about people her heart only know love for all even do she is no longer whit us she will never be forgotten and she will allways be in my heart

Lynn your mother was a wonderful person and really quite a spirited person, judging by the wonderful biography that was written.  I loved the pictures.  My love and prayers go to you and all your family.

Aunty Papoosie had a big heart.  Besides her comical ways she had a "can do" attitude.  In the prime of her life nothing could stop her from doing what she wanted to do. They are having a big reunion and luau up in heaven as the angels welcome her home.

Harriet was one of the most loving, kindest, big-hearted woman I have ever had the privilege and the honor of meeting.  From the very beginning she showed an unconditional love for me and I for her. One could not help but love her.  She had a easy-going spirit about her.  She could bring you joy and laughter even when at your lowest.  Oooohhh, and I loved her home-made chex mix... lol...I believe God puts people in our paths for a reason and I thank God He put you in mine and me in yours.  I know you are very proud of Lynn, she has stepped up and is handling everything..She is her mother's daughter, and she has your big, big heart.  I will continue to be there for her no matter what. My Grandma was the most exceptional woman ive ever met. There wasnt anything my grandmother couldnt do from cooking and hula dancing to flower arrangments. My grandma and i were so much alike in our personalities that we always bumped heads yet we were still very close. She taught me everything she knew and talents that i will forever carry on in her memory. I owe my grandmother my life because if it wasnt for her i most likely wouldnt be here today. My G-Ma as we all always called her took care of me from a very early age and has influenced and molded me into a very strong, independent, self-motivated woman. Even though she may not be physically here i know she lives on through me and i made a promise to her that i would continue to strive to become all that i can be and be the woman she raised. I love you Grandma for forever and i just want to thank you for my life and who i am because of you i know i can do anything in this world and dont have to be afraid. My children and I will forever cherish our fun times with Aunty Papoosie.  We stayed up late one night playing trumps till the wee hours of the morning.  We ate biscuits with our hot coco and had a blast.  You should have seen the competitive side of our Aunty.  We ca't forget the "onolicious" pies she baked.  Lynnette, Warner, my Aunties and the rest of the ohana, we love you all!  Families Are Forever!

101513 the day god took back who was rightfully his. My main lady in life the most amazing caring loving lady i ever knew. My Gma!! She was so strong raised me and warner boy like her own. My gma played the role of mom and dad my whole life and thats a blessing she raised me into the young lady i am today. tought me how to love with all my heart and how important family is OHANA means nobody gets left behind. Gma put everyone before herself she would give me the last dollar she had in her pocket so i could eat. Always had dinner on the table every night laundry washed house always cleaned not because we didnt do it but because that was gma. She would always make sure everyone was okay before herself. I never felt this pain before or felt so empty in my life she was the one person i loved more then anyone in this world and no one will ever take her place. but i will continue to keep it pushing and stay strong for my family cause grandma wouldnt want anything else but to see her family happy and okay. gone but never forgotten till we met again grandma rest in paradise. i know your in a better place now and i have the best angel with me. i love you grandma! everything i do is for you!! -Jocelyn akiona
