

Harris excelled at basketball and tennis. He was also active in the newly founded Boy Scouts of America. He married Tessie Bartsas in November 1946.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II and received his honorable discharge in March 1946.
Harris attended the University of Nevada, Reno, and graduated from the Mackey School of Mines and Engineering, where he worked in the mining industry for most of his life in Washington State, Nevada, and in Mexico for five years.
During the late 1970's, Harris was the mine and mill appraiser for the State of Nevada. Harris also worked as a real estate salesman for 10 years.
He was known for his wit, published poems and his love of the outdoors.
Harris passed away Sept. 12, 2010, at 90 years of age, in Las Vegas. He follows his wife, Tessie; and is survived by his two sisters, Genevieve and Reveau; three children, Sharron, Maureen and Aaron; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, with funeral services following, both at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Interment will follow at Palm Memorial Park - Las Vegas.

Mackay Mining Engineering Scholarship fund in memory of Harris A. Hansen, Class of 1947.
