

Helen was born in Manila, Philippines to Jose "Pepe" Manalad and Pilar Pecson Manalad. She was raised in a family of 12 children in the Philippines. She had 10 sisters and 1 brother. She is survived by her sisters- Dana Sitompul, Asteya Santiago, Josie Lu, and Rukmini Castillo. She raised her kids in the Bay Area, California, but considered her home Chicago, IL for 13 years where she lived with her sister, Rukmini. Helen eventually moved to Las Vegas, NV to live with her daughter, Aileen, for the last seven months of her life.
Helen married at the age of 24 to Manuel Dizon Sr. and immigrated to the United States in 1972. She raised 2 kids but eventually divorced in 1987. She was an Executive Secretary for Pacific Bell for over 15 years.
In 1990, she obtained her Master's Degree from The New College of California, in San Francisco, CA in Social Clinical Psychology. Helen was also an accomplished writer publishing 2 books, "Patterns & Cages" and "The Light of My Soul".
Helen was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in 2022 and underwent chemotherapy for a few months, which ultimately led to her passing. She will be remembered as a kind, loving, and caring mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her children, Dr. Manuel Dizon, Jr., a Chiropractor, Aileen Dizon, staff accountant, and her sisters.
