Henry (Hank) Lehnerer was born in Paducah, KY on January 8, 1941 and died January 17, 2022 at age 81. He met his wife Melodye at the Illinois Central Railroad; both were mail delivery people. Henry and Melodye married November 12, 1966, in Hazel Crest, Illinois. They had two children – Tom (age 53) and Marie (age 49). Henry was one of 8 children. Henry was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Kientzle, his father, George John Lehnerer, and his brother, Paul. His surviving siblings are George, Patrick, Ed, Jim, Mary Ann, and Lucy.
Henry was a Certified Public Accountant and a successful chief financial officer working primarily in the fire protection industry. His occupation moved the family to several different locations including Marinette, WI, Phoenix, AZ, Toronto, Canada, and Dallas, TX. Each move brought both challenges and opportunities. When Henry retired, he and Melodye moved to Springfield, MO where Melodye taught at Missouri State University. In 2000 the couple moved to Las Vegas, NV. They shared a love of going to the strip, eating good food, attending shows and Golden Knights hockey games, and playing a little bit of video poker. Melodye continues to teach at the College of Southern Nevada.
Henry was most proud of his service in the Army – First Calvary Division. After serving in South Korea, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1965.
Henry had many interests but his main one was watching sports. Both his children shared this interest with him. He and his daughter Marie were avid Green Bay Packer fans. They were constantly sharing thoughts about the team and the weekly games but never during the game. That was a jinx! He and his son Tom loved to watch golf and auto racing. Golf tournaments were always fun. The most recent was in Kapalua Maui with breaching whales featured in the background.
Henry and Melodye loved Maui and had been going there since the 1990s. Henry spent his last birthday, January 8, 2022, there.
Henry will be greatly missed by his family. He was an independent yet caring spirit.
