

Herbert Lee Poort, of Las Vegas passed away Sept. 27, 2017. Herb was born in Topeka, Kansas, on June 3rd, 1947. He graduated from Seaman High School in Topeka, Kansas in 1965. Herb proudly served in the United States Marine Corp from 1965-1969 in the jungle country near the Laos border. As a Vietnam veteran, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Expert Badge, Pistol Expert Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, and Purple Heart Medal for wounds taken in Vietnam. Herb retired from Nevada Armored Transport and Local 720 Stage Union. Herb enjoyed all outdoor activities, family camping trips, hunting with friends, traveling and good food. He loved anything with a motor attached cars, boats, and motorcycles. Herb had a huge heart and he always put his family first. His willingness to help made an impact on all who knew him. Herb was preceded in death by his mother Mildred (Ingenthron) Poort and father Herbert A. Poort. He is survived by his wife Deon Chugg Poort; three children son, Nicholas Poort (Julie); son, Nathan Poort; daughter, Noelle Poort (Juan Colon); and the joys of his life, granddaughters, Madison Poort, Brice Poort, Sydnee Poort, grandsons, River Poort, Tycen Poort, Sawyer Poort-Colon, and two very special great granddaughters Harper Poort and Chevy Poort-Johnson, all of Las Vegas. Herb also leaves behind brother, Rene Poort and special sister-in-law, Connie Poort; sister, DeeAun Weber; brother, Mark Poort, all of Topeka, Kansas; as well as several nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends. Herb will be forever missed. Celebration of Herb’s Life will be on October 15th at 12 noon, at Palm Mortuary 6701 N. Jones LV NV 89131. Graveside service on October 16th at 8am, at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd. Boulder City, Nevada. 89005. In leiu of flowers make donations to Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Fund or Assistance League of Las Vegas.
