HOMER JAYNE Homer Lacey Jayne, 96, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Solari Hospice Care facility in Las Vegas. Homer was born Sept. 9, 1916 in Wilbur, Wash., and married Phyllis "Betty" Johnston in Seattle, April 6, 1945, a marriage that lasted 63 years. By trade, Homer was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters union, Local 398, in Pasadena, Calif. Homer and Betty retired to Crescent City, Calif., where they planned and built their own home overlooking the Smith River. In retirement, Homer took great joy and pride in the restoration of his Model T Ford. In 2011, Homer moved to Las Vegas, where he lived with his daughter, Lyla. Homer spent his final few months as a popular resident of the Willow Creek Assisted Living community. He is survived by two children, Lyla Laing of Las Vegas and Marlene Sheldon of Springfield, Ore.; three grandchildren, Laurie Baumgartner of Las Vegas, Jeromie Shelden of Springfield, and Eric Laing of Phoenix; one great-grandchild, Caitlyn Baumgartner of Las Vegas; and his dog and companion, Coco. Homer Jayne was a man of strong convictions, few words and malice toward none. A true role model for all who knew him. No services are scheduled.
