Ira Temple Thomas, III was born on February 9, 1934 in Ensley, Alabama. He was the first son of Inez and Ira Thomas, Jr. He was raised in Detroit, Michigan where he graduated from High School. Shortly upon his enrollment to college, he was drafted to serve 2 years in a special service unit of the US Army during the Korean War. He met Claudia in Los Angeles, California while they both were performers and had a love for jazz. They soon married and began traveling all over singing jazz in various parts of the world. Later on, he went back college to earn an Associate’s degree in Drafting and Mechanical Engineering from Los Angeles Community College. His degrees lead him to become a founding employee of a start -up company that is now on the New York Stock Exchange. After living in Spain, Ira and Claudia relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada and had been a resident since 1997. He was a member of the Las Vegas Jazz Society. At the age of 80, Ira passed away on September 4, 2014. He is survived by his devoted wife, Claudia, numerous family members and friends.
