*July 4, 1932 – April 23, 2025*
Izora Battle Hawkins, age 92, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born on July 4, 1932, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, Izora lived a life rooted in love, faith, family, and generosity.
She was the daughter of Esau and Susie Battle and grew up in a loving household alongside her siblings. In her youth, Izora was a member of the Baptist Church and attended church regularly with her family. She developed a deep and enduring faith that would guide her throughout her life. She and her husband, Budweiser Hawkins Sr., embraced catholicism, at his request, and became active members of St. James Catholic Church. All of their children were baptized there, and Izora remained deeply involved in both church and school activities while raising their children.
Her family eventually settled in Fresno, California, where they lived for many years. Their home was not only a place of warmth and welcome but also the site of a grape vineyard that was harvested annually—a testament to the family's industrious spirit.
A devoted wife and mother, Izora dedicated herself to raising their five children with love and discipline. Although she completed two years of college, she chose to focus on homemaking at her husband's request. Her nurturing presence created a strong foundation for her family.
Izora had a remarkable talent for sewing and ran a successful sewing business for over 25 years. She made clothing for church members and clients, both men and women, and was especially known for her custom-tailored suits for both. Her craftsmanship reflected not only skill but care and attention to detail.
Beyond her work, Izora found joy in many things. She was an avid sports fan who loved watching the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team—Magic Johnson being her favorite player—and followed golf with enthusiasm, cheering on Tiger Woods. She also delighted in classic comedy shows such as
*Sanford & Son*, *The Red Skelton Show*, *Good Times*, *The Jeffersons*, and *All in the Family*, often sharing laughter with those around her.
Cooking was another one of Izora’s passions. She took great pride in preparing meals for family gatherings, especially during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Independence Day—her birthday—which became a cherished tradition marked by her delicious dishes and warm hospitality.
Izora’s spirit of generosity was unmatched. Her home was always open to visitors; she shared what she had freely and prayed earnestly for others. She studied the Bible regularly and taught its lessons to her children by example as much as by word. Even in later years when attending church physically became difficult, she remained committed by participating in services online.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her children Falstaff Hawkins, Ronrico & Lisa (daughter-in-law) Hawkins, and Virginia (Hawkins) Virgil; her brother Esau Battle Jr.; grandchildren Michael & Jessica Zamora (daughter-in-law) Garbutt, Jasmine Hawkins, Victoria Johnson, Budweiser Hawkins III, Melchizedek Heru Ra El (Falstaff Hawkins Jr), Melondy Alsbrook, Keith Porter, Karen Wilkes, Alicia Whitlock, great grandchildren Micah Garbutt and JaMiyah Virgil, dear friend Debra Holder and nephew James Owens along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives whose lives she touched with grace.
Izora was preceded in death by her beloved husband Budweiser Hawkins Sr.; sons Budweiser & Karen (daughter-in-law) Hawkins Jr. and Jose Cuervo Hawkins; parents Esau and Susie Battle; brothers James, Henry and Arshield Battle; sisters Kanzeta Geter, Leona Lane, and Leatrice Jones and Willie L Virgil (son-in-law).
May the memory of Izora Battle Hawkins bring comfort to her family, relatives and friends. May the life she led continue to inspire acts of kindness, faithfulness, and love. To God Be The Glory.
A Funeral Service will be held on May 24, 2025, from 02:00 PM to 03:00 PM at Palm Mortuary Eastern, 7600 South Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV. 89123.
