Jack Milligan was born August 17, 1933 in Pasadena, California to Oliver and Marian Milligan. The family moved to Las Vegas in August 1939. He received his education at the Fifth Street Grammar School and Las Vegas High, Class of '51. One of his first jobs was in the parts Department at Pat Clark Pontiac when it was located at Second and Ogden. As a U.S. Navy veteran, he served as a radioman aboard the USS Titania AKA 1 3 during the Korean War. Jack joined the Las Vegas Fire Department in 1957, attained the rank of Captain and retired in 1986. He married his wife Kathryn (Katie) in 1960.
Jack and Katie were active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles and for many years, chaired a bowling tournament for over a thousand participants at the Showboat Lanes. Eagle bowlers from California, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Texas were in attendance. The profits received were donated to the Eagle charities.
During the 50's and early 60's Jack was a member of the Southern Nevada Racing Association and Las Vegas Racing Association, racing jalopies and stock cars at the Silver Slipper Speed Drome and at tracks in Southern California and Arizona.
Jack supported his wife's participation in the Local and State Retired Teachers' Associations . Both were active in the Retired Public Employees of Nevada and AARP. Other achievements were Charter Member Local #1285 IAFF, Past Secretary/Treasurer Local #1285, Past Secretary Las Vegas Fire Fighters Association, Past Eagle's Aerie President #1213, Past President Nevada State Eagles, Western Regional President, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Past President Southern Nevada Retired Public Employees of Nevada, Past State President, RPEN and Past District Coordinator,. AARP.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife Katie of 54 years, two daughters, Maureen Amos and Laura Jureack, son-in-law John Jureack, grandchildren Christie Durakovic (Tommy) and Eric Jureack, Great Grandchildren Anthony, Aiden and Adrianna. Sibling survivors are sister Pat Emens (Dave).
Visitation will be held at Palm Mortuary Downtown May 24, 2019 4pm-8pm. Funeral will be May 25, 2019 at 11am with Burial Tuesday May 28, 2019 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
