

Jack J. Pursel, loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, passed away Friday, September 4, 2015. He was 93. He was born September 14, 1921, in Des Moines, Iowa to John William and Helen Madge Pursel. He grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa, moving to Las Vegas with his family in 1939. On December 8, 1941, Jack enlisted in the Army Air Corps at Alamo Field, Las Vegas, and served with honor in World War II. He became a decorated B-24 pilot, flying many missions in the South Pacific. Jack married June Berniece Huntington August 27, 1942. Together, they raised four children and were married for nearly 60 years until her death in October of 2000. Jack received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Southern California. He was admitted to the Nevada Bar in 1950 and went on to practice law for more than 55 years. He married Marian Tebbs Nelson on July 21, 2008, and they immensely enjoyed the time they shared together. Jack was a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints and was extremely dedicated to his Savior. He served in many callings in the church including as Bishop of the Las Vegas 1st Ward. Some may say baseball was his first love. He enjoyed watching sporting events involving his teams; the Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Lakers, UNLV Rebels and his Trojans of Southern Cal. In his later years Jack enjoyed nothing more than sitting on his patio watching the birds, enjoying his beautiful flowers, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Marian; children Paul (Nina) Pursel, Anne (Richard) Kunde, Mark (Linda) Pursel and Mary Kay (Gregg) Mendenhall; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; siblings William (Mac) Pursel and Thomas Pursel. Along with his dear Berniece and his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Jeanne Chretien and Richard Pursel. Funeral services will be Friday, September 11, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at the Monte Cristo Chapel of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints,1801 S. Monte Cristo Way. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, at the Monte Cristo chapel and prior to the funeral services September 11, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A Burial Service will take place Saturday, September 12, 11:00 a.m. at Palm Mortuary on Eastern.
