At an early age James joined Sylvester United Methodist Church where he served as a Deacon, he was also a member of Forest Masonic Lodge #142.
James received his early education from E.T. Hawkins High School in Forest, Mississippi, where he graduated with honors at the top of his class as vice president.
James was united in holy matrimony to Ada Walton Jones and moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1959 and started a family and becoming a member of Second Baptist Church.
He began his career working at the Showboat Hotel and Casino where he became the first black Bartender of the company and a Master Mixologist. He received his honors as president of the credit union in 1977. While working James coached for Central Little League Baseball for 12 years.
In 2004 the Showboat closed its doors and James went on to work for the Riviera Hotel and the Las Vegas Convention Center.
James enjoyed betting on sports, Fishing and spending time with Family.
On June 5, 2020 James was called home to be with the lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother; Willi Earl Jones, Sister; Barbra Jones-Curtis and Daughter; Sheila Jones.
Left to cherish his beautiful memories are wife Ada Walton Jones, Daughter; Belinda Jones, Son; James Jones Jr (Dia) all of Las Vegas NV, Sister; Shirley Jones of Jackson, Mississippi. Brother; Wilbert Jones and wife Catherine of Meridian, Mississippi. Sister-in-law; Kathryn Jones of McComb, Mississippi. One Aunt Stella Shavers of Chicago, Illinois. One Uncle James Henry of Las Vegas, NV.
15 Grandchildren, 8 Great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, ,.,, cousins and other family members and friends.
