James Bolden Love entered this life on February 11, 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio to James Bolden and Ida Louise Love. At the age of seven, the family moved to Berkeley, CA. where James attended Berkeley public schools and made several life-long friends. He was a boy scout, played the piano, switched to drums and participated in the Berkeley marching bands.
After graduating from Berkeley High School, James joined the United States Air Force. In 1960, he studied aeronautic engineering and received technical training, where he learned how to build and repair airplanes. He attended University of California, Berkeley for vocational studies in 1972. James taught an Industrial Arts curriculum that he repaired at McClymond's High School in Oakland 1971-1974. He supervised and maintained a fleet of 52 busses at Central Contra Costa Transit Authority. 1982-1984. In 1975, James worked as a jet mechanic, went on to become the shop steward and supervisor of 58 team members from multiple areas for United Airlines. He retired with over 30 years of impeccable service.
James married Beverly Castain and were blessed with two beautiful children, Nicole and Charles Love. In 1987 James married Onqunette Jones and embraced her five children, Taninine, Barry, Wendy, Rachel and Robin. In 2001, James and Onqunette relocated to Las Vegas where they left many dear friends in the Bay Area and met many new friends continuing to live an exciting life. In the Bay Area, James participated in a International Brotherhood of Skiiers. James participated in the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas, Inc. and the Universal Steppers, both of Las Vegas. He danced weekly enjoying the Chicago-style stepping. He and his wife loved to entertain and go out with their friends. This couple were world-wide travelers and enjoyed the employee perks. They traveled to Hawaii, Japan, the Virgin Islands, and other countries.
James was a quiet man, however, once engaged in conversation, he would talk for hours. He loved to talk and tell stories. In his final days, he talked a lot about peace and how we impact one another. He wanted everyone to remember this one line in the Beatles song and he would sing, “All We Need Is Love!”
James departed this life on October 11, 2018. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Onqunette Love. One sister Dr. Patricia Love, of Rockville, Maryland. Two children Nicole Love, of Castro Valley, Ca. and Charles Love, of Sacramento, Ca. Five step-children: Barry Lewis and Rachel Jones, of Portland, Oregon. Taninine Davis and Wendy Watts, of Sacramento, Ca. and Robin Burse, of Carson, Ca. He also leaves, one sister in law Orient Howard, two brothers-in-law Mickey Strowthers and Ralph Faulk. There is eleven grandchildren Joseph Love-Apodaca, Jimmy Love-Quintanilla, Taralynn Love, Kristian Love, Teonna Brown Bell, Patricia Lewis, Jordan Warren, Angelica Lewis, Xavier Lewis, Carrara and Whitley Burse. Five great-grandchildren, Semaj Taylor, Jabari Taylor, Jeaziah Brown and Blake Love three cousins Lauren, Judy and Gomez aka “Skipper” and a host of wonderful friends.
