Born March 15, 1931, in Greece, James came from humble beginnings and followed his dreams
to America, where he built a life defined by love, hard work, and resilience. He proudly served in
the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 and was honorably discharged. Shortly after, he met the love of
his life, with whom he shared 68 joyful years.
James raised two beloved daughters and was a devoted pappou to three grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren. A passionate golfer and daily gym-goer, he remained active well into his later
years.
After 82 years of serving in all forms of the restaurant business from bussing tables at 12 years old
in Greece, to owning and operating a successful family restaurant in Illinois, he retired from the
work he loved, and settled in Las Vegas.
James lived by example. He was known for his sweet disposition, gentle kindness, and a deep
love for God and life. He enjoyed early morning walks through the neighborhood.
He loved working in the yard, gardening, and planted more than flowers—he sowed seeds of love
and harmony in everyone he met. What gave him the most joy was being with his cherished wife,
family, and friends.
James will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his generous spirit, unwavering faith,
and the quiet strength with which he lived his life.
A visitation for James will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at 8:30 AM at Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 5300 El Camino Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89118. Funeral Service will follow at 9:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr, Boulder City, NV 89005 following the Funeral Service. Donations may be made in care of James Petrou Memorial at St John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church Las Vegas.
