

Janet Arthur Raby, 63, of Las Vegas, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012. A native of North Carolina mountains, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Sarah Arthur. Janet graduated from Enka High School, Enka, NC and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In North Carolina she taught elementary school, notably at the Little River School. Janet moved to Las Vegas in 1972 when her husband was stationed at Nellis AFB. In Nevada she was a well-loved GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) teacher, last teaching at the Helen Marie Smith Elementary School before retiring in 1999. Janet was a fine chef who loved to be at table with friends. She was an artist, working with polymer clay, beadwork, pottery, and many other media. She enjoyed travelling in countries from Canada to China, Italy and Uruguay, Israel to Australia, plus all over the United States. Her love of life, quick wit, and ready laugh will be missed. She is survived by her husband of forty-two years, Paul E. Raby; a daughter Kate Robledo (husband Daniel) of Carson City, NV; and a much-beloved granddaughter, Lucy Robledo. She is also survived by three brothers, Charles (Chipper) Arthur (wife Lisa) of Honolulu, HI; George Arthur (wife Karen) of Roanoke, VA; and Lewis Arthur (Wife Sandy) of Weaverville, NC. Visitation scheduled for Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 with services scheduled for Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 4:00pm all at Palm Mortuary- Downtown, 1325 North Main Street, Las Vegas, NV 89101. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in Asheville, NC. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202.
