

Janette Velma Denny passed away, at age 85, on September 8, 2016 at her home in Las Vegas, Nevada in the loving comfort of her sons and family. She bravely fought to recover from injuries resulting from a fall. While suffering great pain and discomfort, her wit, compassion and love of people never wavered. Janette, the middle child of Floyd M. and Lillian C. (Larsen) Gipson was born on July 30, 1931 in the family farmhouse southeast of Springview, Nebraska. She attended a rural school in Keya Paha County and later the Springview grade school until her family moved to Ainsworth, Nebraska where she graduated from High School. On August 6, 1950 Jeanette married Robert “Bob” Denny and a union was established that would last 54 years until Bob’s death in September, 2004. Janette spent a large part of her life in Ainsworth and Springview. In Ainsworth, she worked at MaBell as a telephone operator and at the public library. She was a welcome wagon lady, active in PTA and the Methodist church. Janette and Bob co-owned Denny’s Propane the Gambles Store in Springview and later they moved back to Ainsworth where they were proprietors of Charlies Liquor Store. In 1991, Janette and Bob moved to Las Vegas, NV where they enjoyed living at Los Prados golf community. While in Las Vegas, Janette, who was affectionately referred to as JD, worked at Smiths grocery store and her son’s gaming bar until her retirement. She had a genuine interest in people and made friends wherever she went. Her love of children influenced several children who she met with words of kindness and guidance. For many years she assisted several elderly in Los Prados with home cooked meals and driving for appointments and errands. She was an avid reader of books and newspapers. She stayed well informed about many aspect of life including, medicine and college football and professional baseball, both of which she loved. The Nebraska Cornhuskers were her undisputed favorite football team and the Yankees her favorite baseball team. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and playing bridge and other card games. Her family was her number one priority and one way she showed her love was by preparing wonderful home cooked meal and baked goods. She left fond memories of her chocolate cake, potato salad and dinner rolls. JD was a wonderful story teller and could recount stories of her early childhood and the past giving the listener great insight, humor and colorful detail. She will be missed deeply and will forever be in the minds and hearts of her family. God bless you Mother. Janette was preceded in death by her mother Lillian, father Floyd and husband Robert. Survivors include sons Todd, Las Vegas, NV, and Tim and wife Marcia, Alexandria, VA, grandchildren Kathryn Larson and Michael Denny, sister Janice Fisher, Winner, SD, brother Keith Gipson and wife Betty, Bismarck, ND. Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas conducted a family viewing on September 12, 2016.
