Joan A. Maxwell, 78, a retired educator and social service worker, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Spring Valley Medical Center in Las Vegas. Born on August 23, 1933, the New York native received her undergraduate degree from UCLA and remained a devoted fan of the university's football team. Joan traveled extensively, either playing bridge and poker with her partners, shopping with friends, or experiencing the world with her loving husband. She was also a gifted painter and avid reader. Joan is survived by her husband of 32 years, Ople; daughter, Kim Neal; and several nieces, nephews, and stepchildren. Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m., Friday, October 28. Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 29, both at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89146.
