John Meniar Austin

John M. Austin was born July 1, 1939 in Vaiden, Mississippi to Mary Grear and James Riley Austin. Both preceded him in death. John departed this life on January 22, 2025. He was a resident of Las Vegas, NV for 60 years.

John worshipped with the Prayer Canter for many years, where he served on the usher board. John was a member of Pilgrim Rest B.C. for many years. He was a member of the men choir, he loved to sing.

John joined New Evergreen Baptist Church where he was a regular member of the New Member Class, he loved the teaching and attended until his health failed.

John worked in the Hotel industry for 35 years, until he retired. He had one daughter, Jeanette Austin, she preceded him in death.

John leaves to cherish his memories. One son, Frank Austin of Las Vegas, NV, two grandchildren, Jeanie and Brian Austin of Las Vegas, NV, one stepson, James McElroy (Terry) of Las Vegas, NV, two step grandsons, Terron McElroy (Shavey) of Toluca Lake, CA and Jaison McElroy (Charlett) of Las Vegas, NV, step granddaughter, Shayla Ervin of Bossier City, LA, one great grandson Benaiah McElroy of Toluca Lake, CA, three great granddaughters, Diamond Ervin Osborne of Bossier City, LA, Hadassah and Jael McElroy, both of Las Vegas, NV, three sisters, Annie Apple White and Alma Soris, both of Dallas, TX, Marie Ambrose of Water Lou, IA, five brothers, Joe Austin (John's twin brother) of Water Lou, IA, James and William Austin, both of Colorado Springs, CO, David and J.T. Austin, both of Vaiden, MS. A nest of nieces and nephews, and his Evergreen Church family.

A visitation for John will be held Friday, January 31, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Palm Mortuary - Downtown, 1325 North Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101. A funeral service will occur Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Greater Evergreen Missionary, 1915 Lexington St, Las Vegas, NV 89106. A committal service will occur Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Palm Downtown Mortuary & Cemetery, 1325 N Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101.
