John Edward Belcher was born on January 27, 1937 at home in Newark, Ohio. He was the son of Everette and Josephine Belcher. Raised in Newark, Ohio, he was brought up to be tolerant and trustworthy. John was raised with five siblings. He had an older brother Gene, three older sisters, Betty, Mable and Marie and one younger brother Charlie. The friends that he made, John kept. While growing up, some of his best friends were Bob Rose, Jerry Johnson, Bruce Olsen, Pat and so many others. All of John's friends were special to him. Jerry Johnson was a very close friend. He could tell him anything and pass the time. He was always there for John. After John retired, Jerry and John would laugh and carry on. Jerry Johnson was an exceptional friend to the end. Love can’t be defined but must be experienced. That was so true for John. On October 18, 1969 John married Lupe Lopez. He was totally committed to Lupe and maintained traditional ideals about marriage. John was a good father to his children. He had “old fashioned” parental values and could handle typical family conflicts in a fair and calm manner. John was blessed with three children, two sons, Johnny and Matthew and one daughter Jessica. He was also blessed with two grandchildren Logan and Bennie. His primary occupation was a truck driver. John started at the age of 17 and never had an accident in all the years he drove. He was employed for 10 years by Burke Oil and 15 years with Las Vegas Paving. John was in the Army. He seemed to thrive on the routines offered up by the military. Being a literal thinker with a calm exterior helped him handle the rigors of the military. When John's retirement finally arrived in 2005, he was well prepared. He had taken the time to learn about his various options and chose his course wisely. His new life involved relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. Even in retirement, John continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. He was active in the community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him. John passed away on May 22, 2014 at Summerlin Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada from cardiac arrest. He is survived by his wife Lupe, his children Johnny, Matthew and Jessica and his grandchildren Logan and Bennie. Services were held at Shadow Hills Baptist Church.
