

Chief Master Sergeant (USAF/Retired) John R. Groom III passed away in the early morning of January 14, 2015. John was born in Oklahoma January 16, 1943. He lived with his family in Oklahoma (Bartlesville, Tulsa) and Texas (Midland) as a young man. John joined the Air Force in 1960 and completed training at Biloxi AF, Mississippi. After returning from Formosa to the U.S., he was assigned to Truax AFB in Madison, Wisconsin, where he would meet his future bride, Sharron. John and Sharron (Allbaugh) Groom were married in Madison, Wisconsin, on January 16, 1965. They then departed from Rhine Main AB, Germany, for a three year “honeymoon” in Europe. John is a veteran of the Vietnam War and was stationed in Korea. His thirty years of Air Force service took him all over the world with his family including assignments in Hawaii and Italy. John retired at Edwards AFB, California, in 1989, at which time he, Sharron and their two daughters moved to Las Vegas. He was employed by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for fourteen years in the Communication Center, retiring as PBX supervisor. John was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Groom Jr. and Margaret Gassert Groom, as well as his younger daughter, Kathryn Jean Groom. He is survived by his wife Sharron, daughter Sharri (Eduardo) Reyes, brother, Bill (Holly) Groom of Texas, and sister, Janice (Dean) Fritz of Colorado. Services are scheduled for Monday, January 19, 2015, at 2:00 pm, at Palm Mortuary Cheyenne, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89129.
