John Arthur Kras
November 2, 1921 – November 6, 2019
He was born Nov. 2, 1921, as John Arthur Kras. He had one sibling, a sister Denise, who was 4 years older. Art’s father, John, was a tailor by trade, and Art always said that he was the best dressed kid.
Art went through 12 years of Catholic school education, graduating from Holy Redeemer High School. He then went on to the University of Detroit College in the Detroit Area for 2 years.
Art served in the armed forces until he was granted a “compassionate leave” when his father was diagnosed with cancer. He came home to take care of his mother, Cecilia.
Art owned a bar in the Detroit area that he named “Lets have a party”. He owned the bar for many years, and he also owned a vending machine business for many years.
Art loved to bowl, golf, swim and play poker throughout his life. He was president of the Zion Poker Club at the Sun City Summerlin Community Center until he passed away.
On July 19, 1978, Art married Mary Broussard in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. He was married for the first and only time at age 57. Art and Mary lived in Dearborn Heights until the fall of 1996 when they retired and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Throughout their years living in Las Vegas Mary and Art made many friends. Art had a “coffee club” every morning at his kitchen table for many years at 7:30 AM with Jerry Pressman, Cary Rudolph, Dick Aker, and Vince, Freddy, as well as other friends. He talked to his friend, Jim Lokar in Michigan, every Saturday at 7:00 AM. He also talked to Joe Krol Monday through Friday about the stock market.
Art was always offering his help to friends and neighbors in need. He had a huge heart and was a true friend and confidant.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Brinton, his granddaughter Lyndsey Ray and her husband Jeremy, and three great grandchildren Gavin, Cayden and Brooklynn, his niece, Linda DeFeo and her husband Nunzio, and his niece, Dianne Loomis and her husband Jerry.
Art passed away on November 6, 2019, at age 98. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Art's passing. I felt so sure he would get to that 100th birthday party! You always spoke of him with such love and admiration ... I was hoping to swap jokes and stories with him myself. Thankyou for sharing his fascinating essence with all of us.

Linda, Jeff and I are so sorry for your loss. Art was very fortunate to have had you for a daughter. You helped him to live a long contented life. We liked the things you said about him. He must have been a very interesting man and it appears he had many friends. He seemed to carry the "Let's have a party" theme throughout his life...even at 7 AM. We have submitted a picture you shared on Facebook with him and your dog Ivy. He really does look content in his old age in it. God bless you and your family as you mourn his loss.
