Joseph Jesse de la Paz was born June 1, 1942, in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard a destroyer, the USS Massey. He was a dedicated husband, father and friend. He served 27 years as a police officer in Chicago, before retiring and moving to Las Vegas where he worked part-time for Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He passed away Dec. 26, 2010, after a short five-week battle with cancer. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his family whom he loved dearly. He is survived by his wife, Diane; his son Rudy; and his daughters, Maria and Lisa. He leaves behind nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers; and three sisters. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, both at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89146
