11/28/1934-10/29/24
Juanita Lee Owens, 89, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on October 29, 2024. Born on November 28, 1934, in Jefferson City, Missouri, to Jack and Dessie Heather, she married her beloved husband, Jessie J. Owens, on December 25, 1971, who preceded her in death in 2013.
Juanita was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is preceded in death by her son Jimmie Lee Green and siblings Wanda Branson, Nellie Carpenter, David (Bud) Sanders, Kenneth Sanders, son-in-law Galen E. Ortiz and cherished nephew Robert Weaver.
Her life was dedicated to her family, and she is survived by her daughter Janet Lee Ortiz, grandchildren Austin L. Rooney, Christopher T. Moxon, and Jessica (Deyon) Smith, as well as great-grandchildren Tulip (4), Eland James (3), and Sky (1.5), along with many nieces and nephews. A special mention goes to her niece, Margaret Weaver, who provided exceptional care for Juanita in her final days.
Juanita found profound comfort in her faith in Jesus, especially in her last weeks, embodying the message of 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 KJV: “Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
