Born in Matanzas, Cuba, she carried the spirit, flavor, and rhythm of her homeland with her wherever she went. That spirit became a gift she shared generously with her family, her friends, and even strangers who quickly became friends.
She was a devoted mother to her two children, Jacqueline and Richard, who were the pride and joy of her life. When her grandson, Tyler, was born, that made her life complete. Through every chapter, she showed strength, resilience, and unwavering love. She also experienced love in marriage twice, building a life rich in stories, lessons, and companionship. She was married to Julio Valiente preceding her in death and her dedicated second husband, Victor Naranjo, was her constant companion through her until her final days.
For more than 25 years, she worked as a change girl at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas. But to say that was just her job would be an understatement. She brought light into that space. With her ever present smile and her signature way of calling everyone “honey,” she made people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. It wasn’t just what she did it was how she made people feel.
And if you ever had the privilege of sitting at her table, you know that her love spoke most clearly through her cooking. Her kitchen was always open, and no one ever left hungry. Family, friends, and visitors alike were treated to delicious Cuban meals, prepared with care and served with joy. Food was her language of love, and she spoke it fluently.
She had a way of making life feel lighter. Her smile was constant, her generosity endless, and her presence comforting. She taught us, not through grand speeches, but through everyday acts of kindness, how to live with grace and warmth.
Though we will miss her deeply, we carry her with us in the meals we share, in the kindness we offer one another, and in the simple words “honey,” spoken with love.
May we honor her by living as she did: with open hearts, welcoming spirits, and a smile that can brighten someone’s day.
Rest in peace, dear mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Your love will remain with us always.
A Memorial Service will be held at Palm Mortuary - Downtown, 1325 North Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101, US, on April 26, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
