Karen was born on January 21, 1963, the only daughter of David and Judy (Chia-Dee) Voo and lived much of her youth in Park Forest and Flossmoor, Illinois. Karen is now united with her mother Judy and younger brother Jeffrey in a much more peaceful and tranquil place after 12 years of her battle with breast cancer.
During Karen’s youth, she attended Rich South High School and then graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School. In May 1986, she received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and then in May 1989, a BS degree in Mathematics Teachers Education from Illinois State University at Normal.
Although Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2009, throughout her ordeal she continued to be positive and pursue her life’s passion of being a teacher and educator. She never let her condition get in the way of her daily interactions with others. She was a Mathematics Instructor concurrently at Elgin Community College and Waubonsee Community College in Illinois for 10 years, a Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Kane County in Illinois, and most recently a mathematics teacher at William “Bob” Bailey Middle School in Clark County, Nevada.
