Born March 6, 1960 and raised in San Francisco, Karen was one of five siblings in a close-knit family whose parents hailed from Hawai‘i. From an early age, she was known for her strong independence and free-spirited nature—qualities that never faded and grew into a vibrant presence that touched everyone around her.
In her twenties, Karen co-created Bionic Beat alongside her then-husband, who served as the head DJ. She played a pivotal role in running and producing a dynamic dance group that became a staple in the nightclub scene. Her creativity, vision, and energy helped shape unforgettable experiences on and off the dance floor.
Karen dedicated over 25 years of her life to the media industry, working across radio, television, and magazine publication. Her talent and dedication earned her numerous accolades; nominations, awards, and published recognition throughout her career, reflecting the respect she garnered from colleagues and audiences alike.
She was married for 20 years and is lovingly remembered as the mother of two beautiful children, Krystal and Brandon. After her divorce, Karen embraced a renewed chapter of life. She traveled extensively across the world—from Europe to Asia—collecting experiences and memories wherever she went.
A deeply creative soul, Karen found joy in crafting, especially beading and bedazzling anything she could transform with her hands. Later in life, she reconnected with her passion for Barbie culture, attending annual conventions and finding both community and comfort in a world that allowed her to freely express herself.
In November 2025, Karen was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic and lung cancer. Despite undergoing approximately 500 hours of grueling chemotherapy treatments over the last 6 months, she faced her illness with remarkable courage and determination.
Her family honors her as a woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and remained unapologetically herself until the very end. She is now reunited in heaven with those who preceded her in death; her beloved father, Reynold and her cherished sister, Doreen. She is survived by her children, Krystal and Brandon, her mother Cecilia and her siblings Aaron, Sharon, and Corinne. Her memory will also be lovingly treasured by her nephews & niece; Chad, Trever, and Nicole—along with her cousins, who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
