

Beverly Kay Bitts passed away March 1, 2011, after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She died peacefully in her own home under hospice care, with her family at her side. Kay was born Beverly Kay Thomas, Sept. 10, 1938, in Alexandria, Ind., the daughter of Ralph Charles Thomas and Dollie Minnie (Perdue) Thomas. She graduated from Muncie Central High School, then Ball State University, where she met her husband, Jerry. She and Jerry lived in the Chicago suburbs for many years, where they raised their two daughters. She worked for 35 years as executive assistant for ServiceMaster Industries. Kay and Jerry retired and moved to Las Vegas in 1997. She enjoyed music, especially playing piano and playing in the Summerlin Ringers handbell group. She was an avid gardener, and especially loved roses. She is survived by her husband, of 50 years, Jerry Allen Bitts; sister, Barbara Ann Brown of Daleville, Ind.; daughters, Laura Kay Bitts of Portland, Ore., and Sheila Mae Bitts of Chicago; and granddaughters, Violet Ann and Siobhan Kay Egan of Portland. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Gail Thomas; and infant son, Brice Allen Bitts. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 8901 Del Webb Blvd. in Summerlin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Kay's name to Safe Nest or Three Square. Arrangements under the direction of Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
