Kay Francis Logan

Kay married Floyd Logan, Jr. on February 3, 1968. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2013. From this union two sons were born, Anthony, who preceded her in death, and Darren Ashley Logan. Three wonderful daughters came later – Alyce, Brenda and Joél.

Kay and Floyd made their home in Denver, CO for 29 years, where Kay worked for Denver Public Schools at East High School for 26 years. In that time, she touched more young lives than she probably ever knew. Students called her “Mom.” She kept them in line with her trusty flyswatter, kept close at hand in her office, and she was known to come marching across the esplanade if she caught you outside when you should have been in class — swat first and ask questions later. Her small stature meant her threats never struck much fear, but her students minded her all the same, because what really kept them in line was how deeply they loved and respected her.

Kay united with True Light Baptist Church in Denver, where she served as Director of Children’s Church and Announcement Clerk, and took part in Women’s Fellowship, Bible Study, and Sunday School. She also poured herself into mentoring young women in the church.

In 2001, Kay and Floyd moved to Las Vegas, and united with Victory Missionary Baptist Church in 2002. She was active on the Deaconess Board, Feeding Ministry and the Greeters Ministry. Kay loved Sunday School dearly. She found joy in reading, sending cards, sewing, walking and crossword and jigsaw puzzles (which she proudly displayed throughout her home). Kay loved to sing even though she did not have the voice for it. On her walks, she would sing out loud, scattering any birds unlucky enough to be nearby. On birthdays, she would call and sing to family and friends straight from the heart, putting a smile on every face on the other end of the line. She would sometimes wait until the very end of the day, leaving you to wonder whether your song was coming. More than anything, Kay loved people. Nearly every Sunday, Floyd, or whoever had the pleasure of driving her, would wait patiently while she stopped to visit with everyone in sight.

Kay leaves to cherish her memory her son, Darren Logan; four grandsons: Sgt. RayVann Logan (Sgt. D’Nira) and Talon Logan of Houston, TX, and Irie and David Logan of Denver, CO; two great-grandchildren, River and Raya; a sister, Katherine Randolph (Ken), of Summerville, SC; daughters-in-law Keisha Henderson and the late Kae Bruney and a host of cousins across Las Vegas, Texas, and Louisiana.

Kay also leaves, adopted into her heart, three daughters: Alyce Y. Keys and Brenda Keys Perry (Les) of Denver, CO, and Joél Clayburn of Smyrna, GA; three granddaughters, Delyce Collins (John), Lanyce Keys, and Alyce L. Keys; a great-grandson, Jayden (Moriah) Collins; and four great-grandchildren, Imani, E’myia, Carson, and Henry, along with a host of family and friends.

Kay will be deeply missed by her family and by friends all over the world who were lucky enough to know her, hear her sing, and feel her love.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Victory Missionary Baptist Church, 500 W. Monroe St., Las Vegas, Nevada 89106, on July 2, 2026, at 11:00 am.
