

Kenneth Joseph Ross died on June 9th, 2012 at the age of 82 after losing his battle with cancer. Born April 29th, 1930 in Jersey City, New Jersey, Kenneth, son of Robert and Antonette lived most of his life there until finally moving to Las Vegas Nevada where he resided the last few years. Kenneth had two siblings, his brother Bobby Ross and his sister Rose Cardella. At the age of 19 Kenneth enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. on May 17th, 1948. Kenneth saw active duty in Korea as part of an assault unit in the 1st Marine Division and was involved in the campaign to seize and control the Cho Sin Reservoir. He was fearless and a Marines Marine that everyone looked up to. One of the bloodiest battles of the Korean War, Kenneth received several service medals for bravery under combat. He was awarded an honorary discharge as a Marine Corp Staff Sargent and returned home to meet his wife to be, Joanne in May of1952.
Kenneth married Joanne Rowe, also of Jersey City and eventually they moved to Fulton Ave where they started a family. Kenneth had a daughter Deborah Ann and two sons, Kenneth Patrick and Robert Joseph. Kenneth was a carpenter and millwright in the Hudson County Local 6. He and his family lived there until 1968 when they moved to South Plainfield where they bought a home on Rahway Ave. Kenneth raised his children there eventually leaving his trade and taking on a new profession working for Suburban Transit Corp as a coach operator. He retired and made the trip to Las Vegas to join his brother and son who moved there years earlier.
Kenneth was an avid music lover. His favorite era was the Big Bands of the 30’s and 40’s. He played an instrument, the vibraphone and he often wrote sheet music and played right up until his last days. Kenneth’s other love was his car. He owned a white BMW 335i which he treasured as much as his love for music. The only thing more important to him other than his music and his car was his beloved family.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Joanne Ross from Hamilton, New Jersey. His son Kenneth is a Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy in Las Vegas. Daughter, Deborah lives in Toms River and his only Grandchild Christine Posusney, a graduate of the University of Pharmacy in Philadelphia lives with her husband Michael in Mt. Laurel. His youngest son Robert, District Manager for a telecommunications company and his wife Catherine are residents of Mountainside.
Kenneth’s remains will be cremated and he will receive a military style burial. His ashes will be laid to rest at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City Nevada. A monument for Kenneth will be erected at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield New Jersey for the rest of his family.
