Lacy Kirk (LK) Alexander was born on October 3, 1942, to Fredie Louis and Mattie Lee Hull Alexander in Marvell, Arkansas.
Lacy professed a belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Sandtuck, Arkansas. His Sunday School and General Education teacher, Ms. Memory Mackey taught him to read from the Bible. His early education took place at the one-room schoolhouse built by his grandfather, Louis Alexander, and was attached to Mt. Olive Baptist Church. When the family moved to North Little Rock in 1949, Lacy attended Pulaski County Training School in McAlmont until 1957. He was promoted two grades because of his exceptional learning abilities and therefore graduated from high school at 15 years of age.
Lacy enrolled in Agricultural, Mechanical & Normal (AM&N) College in Pine Bluff, AR (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) just prior to his 16th birthday, where he played football and sang in the college choir on a music scholarship. He left AM&N and graduated from State College of Arkansas (now the University of Central Arkansas) in Conway with both his Bachelor’s and Master of Science degrees in 1969. Following graduation, Lacy began his professional career in education teaching children with special needs at The Arkansas Children’s Colony (now the Conway Human Development Center). Lacy relocated to Los Angeles, CA in 1970 and in 1975 became an integral part of the Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD). During his time there, Lacy served at the District Office, Vice Principal at Centinela Elementary School, Principal at both Clyde Woodworth Elementary and Monroe Middle School. Lacy was extremely proud of his accomplishments in the expansion of the IUSD Adult Education School. There he, as Director, along with his staff, created and implemented many programs that were beneficial and vital to the community.
While working at Woodworth Elementary School Lacy met, fell in love, and married Diane Dupaty Semien. Lacy's heart always trusted Diane, and she demonstrated her devotion and faithfulness in the way she and her family loved and cared for Lacy during his infirmity and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s in 2015.
Lacy's commitment to the church continued his entire life. He received his “Certificate of Ordination” on June 15, 1967 to become a deacon at Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church under the spiritual leadership of his father, Fredie L. Alexander. While living in Los Angeles, he was a faithful servant and member of Friendship Baptist Church in Yorba Linda and Holy Tabernacle of God Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles under the pastorship of his brother, Dextral Alexander. Lacy was a member of the choir where he expressed his love for Jesus by singing songs of praise. The power of his music will never leave our memory because he always carried a beautiful song in his heart, and the songs he sang always drew us closer to the beauty of God.
Lacy departed this life to abide with his Heavenly Father on April 12, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings; David Louis, Fredie Louis Jr., Mekouris, Dextral, Berdine A. Ready, Valerian A. Summerville, and Erin Catherine Alexander.
Lacy is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Diane; his children, Lacy Alexander II (LaTanya), Kaisa Alexander, Lacy Alexander III (Amonda), Angela Greer, Kim Trimble-Jones, and Yvonne Williams; his three stepchildren, Natasha Richard (Kenneth), Merricks Semien II, and Chandra Richard (Kristopher); his oldest and youngest remaining siblings, Wardell Alexander (Gertie) and Kathya Alexander, and a host of grandchildren, other close relatives and friends to cherish his memories.
Lacy will be missed greatly by all who loved him, worked with him, and the thousands of children and adults whose lives he impacted in his nearly half a century in education. The precious memories he shared with Diane, their families and friends will live on forever in our hearts. Lacy was known for his endearing smile, his willingness to help anyone in need, his patience, his generosity, and steadfast dependability.
John 13:7 - Jesus answered and said unto him, "What I do thou knowest not now;
but thou shalt know hereafter."
