Larry D. Eilers of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on August 20, 2026, at the age of 65. He was born on February 9, 1961, to his parents Alfred and Norma Jean Eilers in Omaha, Nebraska. Larry attended Sterling High School and was in the graduating class of 1979. Here he played both basketball and football. He was, of course, an avid fan of Nebraska football. Larry attended UNL with a major in Agriculture Economics.
Larry was a dedicated supervisor and manager in various businesses where he enjoyed working with people. Early in his life, while in Lincoln; Larry managed a Kinney's Shoe store as well as owned and operated New England Seafood. After the family moved to Omaha Larry opened and managed a store for the Colby Ridge Popcorn company. When they moved to Las Vegas in 1989; Larry served in a management capacity for TCBY store, Subway Sandwiches, Jack in the Box and Hilton Hotel (Coffee Cart and TCBY). He continued food/beverage supervision at the Women’s Correctional Facility and Summit View Youth Facility. Larry worked baggage security for TSA Las Vegas McCarren Airport.
As a youth, Larry lived on a rural farm near Sterling Nebraska, 45 miles Southeast of Lincoln. When he wasn’t helping with livestock or planting, he enjoyed hunting and fishing on the property and neighboring properties. Larry rode his bike around the area and enjoyed local events, such as the Fireman’s Picnic which was one of his first dates with Gina whom he married on August 01, 1981 for 45 years of marriage.
Larry was a kind, friendly, and caring man who deeply loved his family. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed joking around and telling stories. He was known by many as “Good Old Larry” as well as many other fun nicknames given to him by his hunting buddies.
Larry enjoyed cooking chef quality meals for Gina and his girls as well as family and friends. He also enjoyed eating out at various restaurants. He had great fondness for the outdoors, nature and animals. Larry's hunting and fishing trips with his friends took him to so many beautiful areas. Two other passions of Larry's were music (such as Jazz, Country, and Gospel), as well as his love exploring arts and antique sales.
Larry was dedicated to helping people with projects, including a race team who raced at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Recently, he was transforming the garage into his ultimate man cave to restore cars, including a classic ‘68 Buick Skylark.
He is survived by his wife, Gina Lynn Eilers; his two daughters, Michala Schmidt (RC Schmidt) and Amber Eilers (Ben McElroy); grandchildren, Sadie, Selena, Ruben, and Evelyn; sister, Kathy Johnson (Dale Johnson); sister-in law, Julie Thomson (Jim Walla); nieces, April Dietz (Mark Dietz), Susan Ritta (Andrew Ritta), and Terra Garay (Will Harman), great nieces and nephews, Collin, Darius, Alexandria, Xavier, and Simone; and his many extended family and friends. And let’s not forget Jake, his white toy poodle that had a special bond with Larry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Norma Jean Eilers.
Larry, a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. May you rest peacefully in Heaven.
