Born June 29, 1938, in New Virginia, Iowa, Larry was the son of Arthur “Lawrence” and Carrie (Holloway) Taylor. Raised on the family farm alongside his older sisters, Norma and Thelma, Larry developed an early foundation of discipline, integrity, and responsibility —values that would shape his life and career.
A graduate of New Virginia High School, Larry went on to earn a degree in business from Iowa State University in 1960.
Larry spent his entire professional career with Square Deal Insurance Company in Des Moines, IA, rising to the position of Secretary/Treasurer before retiring. His meticulous nature, strong work ethic, and gift for organization made him a trusted figure in the company and a steady presence in the workplace.
On September 4, 1960, Larry married the love of his life, Barbara Jacobson. They shared a strong and loving marriage of nearly 65 years until Barb's passing in March 2025. Together, they raised four children—Richard, Kimberly (Ted) Mosher, Kira (Don) Zurbay, and Melissa Taylor—in Indianola, Iowa.
Following his retirement in 1999, Larry and Barb relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada where they embraced their golden years with enthusiasm. They travelled extensively, exploring the world and creating countless cherished memories. Together, they enjoyed a passion for collecting and selling Depression glass, an endeavor that combined Larry’s eye for detail with Barb’s artistic sensibility.
In Las Vegas, Larry found unexpected joy in the entertainment world. He worked as a background actor in several film and television productions shot in the area, thoroughly enjoying the excitement on set and the opportunity to meet a variety of well-known actors and celebrities. He spent many years volunteering at the CineVegas Film Festival, combining his love of movies with the thrill of being part of the film world.
Always one to stay active and involved, Larry served on various committees within his retirement community, where his thoughtful contributions and steady leadership were appreciated by all who knew him.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barb, his parents and sisters Thelma Perdue and Norma Romine.
He is survived by his four children; grandchildren Ricky Taylor, Kaitlyn Mosher, Taylor (Ryan) Weishaar, Cameron (Sage) Peterson, Logan Peterson and Hailey Rittenhouse; nieces Shirley Annear and Carla Phillips.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Las Ventanas Foundation Benevolence Fund in Larry’s memory.
