Leroy Blount, a devoted husband, a loving father, a fun-loving grandfather, and a comforting friend passed away peacefully on September 11, 2018 at the age of 81 with his family by his side. He was born September 17, 1936 in Sylvester, Georgia to Addie Mae and Jack Blount. Leroy joined the United States Air Force shortly after high school in 1954 in Detroit, Michigan. He was an Airman 2nd Class who received the military Good Conduct Medal during the Korean Conflict. He served four years and received an Honorable discharge.
He had relocated to Los Angeles, California where he met the love of his life, Eunice Yvonne Pouncy. On May 21, 1966, Eunice and Leroy were married and instantly became a blended family. Leroy loved being a husband to Eunice and a supportive and caring father to their 9 children. He was a role model to his wife and children as head of the house. He was also a pet lover. Skippy and Bella were the family dogs. Because Leroy had several daughters, he had decided to get a male dog for companionship. Well, much to his chagrin, she turned out to be another female dog.
In addition, Leroy was a stylish dresser, a dancer who was light on his feet when he danced with Eunice, a disciplinarian at times, a confidant and a friend. He was also a man who loved his sports, playing, watching and coaching especially with his grandchildren. The top of his list were football, track and field, basketball and bowling. The most important thing to Leroy was spending time with his family and friends. His dearest friends included Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Skinner, and Tony and Shirley.
Leroy's occupation was head of maintenance at Cal Poly University and after 23 years of service, he retired and relocated to Las Vegas with his family. During the last 7 years of his life, he was seeking God on a personal level. Praying, studying the scriptures and reading his bible was part of Leroy's daily ritual. His family believed Leroy made peace with his Lord and Savior.
Leroy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eunice Blount; 9 children, Yvette Saunders, Marilyn James, Cheryl Miller, Ingrid (Ivan) Harris, Pamela (Matthew) Mullen, Briggette Cornell, Yvonne (Dale) Derert, Reginald (Janis) Blount, and Stanley (Letty) Blount; 28 grandchildren; and extended family and friends.
Leroy Blount did his best to ensure that his family, friends, loved ones, co-workers, and everyone whose life he touched were given the chance to become a better person.
