Uncle Lon was my dad’s BEST friend.  They went to Western high school together and were in the service at the same time.  Cat (as my dad would call him) even took my parents to the airport the day that they left for their honeymoon.  
Not sure there was anyone with a brighter smile in the world, or anyone that made my dad laugh as much as Big Lon.  My brother and I would always be so excited when we turned the corner on our street, and we would see his big white work truck out front.  That meant my dad was in a great mood, they would be drinking Budweiser,  smoking cigarettes outside, and there would be something yummy for dinner,  including chocolate chip cookies.   He always loved my mom’s cooking, and she would make him a gourmet meal at the drop of a dime  with no notice of him even coming.  

A week after my baby was born, my air conditioner went out.  After 5 different companies, 12 technician, and 106 days of no air, I finally called Uncle Lon.  He is alway so busy in the summer that I didn’t want to bother him. But at this point I was desperate.   Of course he fixed it within hours and it has worked like new for the last 4 years.  

My dad and Lon talked on the phone all the time.  Conversation progressed from laughing carefree about work, to how proud they were of their kids and grandkids, to joking about being roommates at the VA hospital and which nurses were the best and what food to order.  

Our family will forever love and miss the sweetest giant we ever knew.  

Lonny and I were close friends for thirty years and never had a cross word. He was completely truthful, totally honest and his word was always good. He was a master craftsman in his trade and had no equal.
  We were both extremely proud of our sons and delighted with our grandchildren. We shared so much of our lives with each other because we  came to care a lot about each other and our families. We spent a huge portion of our times together laughing and enjoying each other's stories. I truly miss my dear friend.
  My sincere condolences to his family  and may you all know how deeply he loved you.
