Mrs. Lorna Rose (Nelson) LaPointe, 91, passed peacefully on July 19, 2022, following a long and valiant struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Born October 9, 1930, in Casper Wyoming, Lorna and her family resided near the Casper National Guard Armory, a cavalry outpost commanded by her father, where she developed her love of horses and exquisite riding ability. In 1940, Lorna and her family moved from Casper to Billings, Montana, where she rode her horse along the Rimrocks, out to barn dances, and in rodeo dressage shows. Following her graduation from Billings High School, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she met her future husband, Raymond, then serving in the US Army as commanding officer of the Nevada Test Site.
Together they raised four children while traveling the country and Europe on various military postings, eventually settling back in Las Vegas to raise their family. Active well into her 70s, Lorna and her friends would trail ride the mountains around Las Vegas and the Tetons in Wyoming, inspiring all of us to enjoy life to the fullest. She passed along her love and knowledge of horses as a long time 4-H leader, influencing countless young adults and making numerous friends along the way.
She loved music, dancing, and jigsaw puzzles, and ran a successful local real estate business for several years. Diagnosed with Alzheimer's in her late 70s, she fought a courageous battle, never losing her gentle nature, sense of humor, and love of family. She passed with characteristic grace in the presence of her loving family and the caring staff of TLC Senior Residence.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra L. (Domingo) Cambeiro, Suzanne (Robert) Anderson, and Kathy R. LaPointe, and son Michael R. (Terri) LaPointe; grandchildren Anthony D. (Emilie) Cambeiro, Stephen M. Cambeiro, Nicole M. (Clifford) Mpare, Dominick D. Cambeiro, Maria (Anthony) Gordon, David R. (Nicole) Anderson, Brittney R. (Jeffrey) Gonzales, Eric F. (Chele) Helbert, Bradley A. Helbert, Kristi L (Chris) Murphy, and Scott A. Trowbridge; and several loving great grandchildren. She will be forever remembered as the beautiful Mother and Grandmother (Ami) that enriched our lives, and we will miss her as we keep her forever in our hearts.
The family is planning a private ceremony, but welcome remembrances on the Palm Cheyenne Mortuary website. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at act.alz.org.
