

Louis LeRoy Sims was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Louis will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
He was the son of Hazel and Joe Baxter (he raised Louis). Louis grew up in Buckeye, Arizona.
Louis was raised with six siblings. He had four older brothers: Carl, Claud, Raymond, and Earl; plus two sisters, Leota and Lulu (twin sisters). Louis was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young boy, Louis had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. Louis was an active child who took part in football. In his spare time he liked cars and football. However, to Louis, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
He graduated from Liberty High School in 1950. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. His favorite class in high school was shop. He was an All-Star football player in high school.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Louis enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, some of his best friends were Woody (his best friend) and Eddy Vansant. Later in life, he became friends with Ted Kelsey, Sye Paxy, Dick Quinn and Wes Jacobs.
On August 29, 1952 Louis exchanged wedding vows with Annabelle M. Brown at Chapel of the West of Las Vegas, Nevada. Empathic and loyal, Louis was committed to making his new family happy.
Louis worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Louis was blessed with three children, one daughter, LuAnn, and two sons, Gregory and Arthur. Another blessing for Louis was the gift of twelve grandchildren, Ashley, Randy, Brandon, Dustin, Jacob, Brooke, Benjerman, Nathan, Lexie, Michael, Brittany and Courtney.
Fortunately, Louis enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Louis worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was being a universal-heavy equipment operator. He was employed for 40 years with Wells Cargo Construction Company. Louis always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Louis enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were working on the house and in the yard. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Louis found pleasure in sports. In high school, Louis played football and baseball. Recreational sports included fishing. Louis was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were football and baseball.
Louis’s faith was important to him. He was a member of the St. Fransis De Sales church for 40 years.
Louis enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. One of his favorite vacations included a trip to Florida with their son, Gregie.
Louis was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was Dixie, a Yorkie. They were best friends for 12 years. His family was rounded out by his Doxen Winnie dog, Shotze'.
When Louis’s retirement finally arrived in 1995, he was well prepared. In retirement, he found new pleasure in doing yard work. Even in retirement, Louis continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Louis was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him.
Louis passed away on August 26, 2011 at Creech Air Force Base, Indian Springs, Nevada. He is survived by his wife, Annabelle; his children, LuAnn, Gregory and Arthur Sims; his twelve grandchildren, and his seventeen great-grandchildren. Services were held at Palm Morthuary Northwest followed by Dad being taken home.
Simply stated, Louis was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Louis leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Louis LeRoy Sims.
