Lt. Lloyd was born on June 10, 1967, in Downey, California to Mark Lloyd and Carol Luther. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson high school in Tacoma, Washington in 1985. After graduation Erik worked for UPS for two years. Then in August of 1987 he moved to Las Vegas to attend UNLV where he studied hotel/hospitality management and criminal justice and also played rugby for UNLV. Then in September of 1990, he started his career with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Lt. Lloyd is survived by his beloved wife Minddie; two daughters, Cassie (Jerred) and Stephane; five grandchildren Reagan, Ryinn, Mason, Ollyver, and Kaelyb-Alekzandr. His grandmother Norma Booher, who will celebrate her 100th birthday in December, Erik was looking forward to celebrating with her. Erik was her first grandchild. His father Mark, and Onn Lloyd, and his mother Carol, and Chris Luther, siblings Kevin (Leanne), Megan (Craig), and Jon (Shannon), cousins, 30 nieces and nephews and many friends.
Lt. Lloyd was a 30-year veteran of the department, and he served in various details including: Patrol, Bike Patrol Downtown, Field Training Officer, Narcotics, SE Area Command, Internal Affairs, Technical & Surveillance, Major Violators, Homeland Security, and Force Investigation Team/Officer-Involved Shootings.
Erik had a passion for many things including traveling, sports, ice fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, and off-roading. He coached softball for 28 years, traveled to different countries to compete and coached in Hawaii. Erik loved the Seattle Seahawks. He was looking forward to attending football games in his season seats at the new Allegiant stadium and as a UNLV Alumnus he loved to watch the Rebels play.
Erik’s love of his life was his family and spending time with his grandchildren. To them he was known as “Papa pool boy.”
He served as President of the Injured Police Officers Fund, a nonprofit that raises funds for families of officers hurt or killed in the line of duty.
Services for Lt. Erik Lloyd will be held on Wednesday August 19th, 2020 at Central Christian Church.
