July 23, 1939 – May 18, 2026
Lydia Cruz Angeles was born on July 23, 1939, to Celerino S. Angeles and Magdalena Cruz. She was the sixth of eight children and the youngest of the girls in a family bound by deep love, faith, and tradition.
From a young age, Lydia showed quiet determination and a sharp mind. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education, but instead of entering the classroom, she devoted herself to the family’s textile business. Her steady hands, diligence, and reliability made her an essential part of its success.
Her life took an unexpected turn when she traveled to the United States as a buyer for the family business. When martial law was declared in the Philippines, she remained in America and began building a new life. She settled in New York, where she worked as a bookkeeper in Manhattan for nearly forty years. She was admired for her intelligence, strong work ethic, and unwavering dependability.
Family was Lydia’s greatest joy. In New York, she lived with her sisters and brother-in-law, and she treasured the time spent with loved ones. She especially loved the annual Angeles family reunions, where stories were shared, laughter was abundant, and memories were made. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by family.
After retiring, Lydia moved to Las Vegas with her family. Sharing daily life with loved ones brought her great comfort and happiness. She enjoyed shopping trips, visits to the casino, family dinners, and the many gatherings that filled her days with laughter and love.
Her faith was the quiet anchor of her life. During her years in New York, her long commute allowed her to attend daily Mass, a practice she cherished deeply. In Las Vegas, she continued attending regular Mass services, remaining steadfast in her devotion until her final days.
Though she never married, Lydia lived a life rich in love and purpose. She became a second mother to her nieces and nephews, especially Michael, and later to Michael’s children. Her generosity was gentle and constant. She gave without hesitation, supported without question, and loved without limits.
Lydia leaves behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, quiet strength, and unwavering love. Her memory will continue to live in the hearts of those she guided, cared for, and cherished so deeply.
In her final moments, Lydia shared words that reflected the faith and peace that guided her throughout her life. She said she was not afraid, that she was ready, and that she knew she would be happy with God. Her last words to her family were simple and heartfelt:
“I love you all.”
Those words will remain a lasting gift to everyone fortunate enough to have known and loved her, and a reflection of the love she carried in her heart throughout her life.
