Mother, Lola, Sister, Auntie, Wife, Friend, and Loyal Servant of God
Lynda Cueva Williams, a beloved mother, Lola (grandmother), sister, aunt, wife, friend, and devoted servant of God, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on January 13, 2024, at the age of 72 years, 2 months, and 23 days. She was surrounded by her children and sisters in Las Vegas, NV, at the time of her passing.
Lynda was born on September 22, 1952, in Caloocan, Philippines, to the late Nicasio (Robert) Cueva and the late Amparo Basconcillo. She was the fourth oldest of eleven siblings.
At the age of 14, Lynda moved with her family to the United States in May 1967. They settled in San Francisco, CA, where Lynda attended high school. She quickly became a mother-like figure to her younger siblings, helping them adjust to their new life in the U.S. Lynda also had a strong desire to help others and was once a member of the Peace Corps, where she worked toward making a positive difference in the world.
In the early 1970s, Lynda met Sylvester Wesley Williams Jr. in California, and they soon married. The couple settled in Mountain View, CA, where they both worked for GTE/Sylvania (later General Dynamics). Lynda worked as a data entry clerk and was especially proud of her role in the development of the Patriot Missile system.
Lynda and Sylvester had their first child, Sylvester III (Sly), in 1972, followed by their second son, Kevin, in 1973. In 1979, they were blessed with twin daughters, Shelyn and Shawna. The family moved to Cupertino, CA, prior to the twin’s birth, where they lived for the next 25 years. In the early 2000s, Lynda also spent some time living in Sacramento, CA.
After a permanent separation from Sylvester in 2005, Lynda returned to the Philippines, where she split her time in Paranaque, Manila, and at her small resort in the Bicol province. There, she found new love with her husband, Rico Del Barrio. Rico provided Lynda with care, support, and companionship in her later years, and her family is deeply grateful for his love. In the Bicol province, Lynda built a strong community of friends and family, and she was cherished by many.
Lynda was a proud Lola of ten beautiful grandchildren, and she loved being involved in their lives. She also served as a loving Auntie to a large number of nieces and nephews and was very close to each of her siblings. Both her family in the Philippines and the U.S. loved her dearly.
Known for her incredible cooking skills, Lynda also had a remarkable green thumb, growing everything from orchids, roses, and fruits to exotic plants and vegetables. She had a passion for travel and new experiences, she loved all kinds of foods (especially Mexican Chili Relleno) and she embraced life fully. Above all, Lynda treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and extended family, creating lasting memories together. She also had a deep love for dogs and, at the time of her passing, had eight beloved “dog children.”
Lynda’s faith was an essential part of her life. A devout Christian, she prayed and read scripture daily. Her personal relationship with God was of utmost importance to her. She prayed for peace, love, guidance, safety, and support for her family and friends. She also prayed for her loved ones to find God and cultivate their own personal relationships.
Lynda will be missed for her unwavering compassion, love, loyalty, tenacity, and devotion to her family and community. Her zest for life, laughter, humor, and storytelling brought joy to everyone around her. Her children will forever miss her warm hugs, kisses, loving phone calls, and messages on Facebook and Messenger for holidays and birthdays. Lynda was truly a gem, and she will always be remembered.
Lynda was preceded in death by her first husband, Sylvester Williams Jr. (2015), her brother, Oscar Cueva (2023), her brother, James Cueva (2024), and her granddaughter, Aaliyah Ramirez (2006). She is survived by her husband, Rico Del Barrio; her children, Sylvester III (Sly), Kevin, Shelyn, and Shawna; her daughters-in-law, Sandra and DeAna; her sons-in-law, James Ho and Stan Ramirez; her nine grandchildren: Devin, Ashley, Jenalyn, Abigayle, Branden, Brycen, Olivia, Stella, and Darien; her siblings: Albert, Connie, Rolando, Evelyn, Arnie, Marilyn, John, and Francis; her half-brother, Robert Cueva, her in-laws; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Rest in peace and love in Paradise, Lynda. You will forever be in our hearts.
