Manohar "Mike" Lilaram Vaswani

Manohar “Mike” Lilaram Vaswani was born on May 2, 1944 in Hyderabad, Sindh, India. Mike and his wife Rita immigrated to the US in 1971 and they were married for 52 years. Mike and Rita lived in California for 25 years where they raised their son and daughter and where he was a strong community leader in the Sindhi community. They then relocated here to Las Vegas where they lived for over 30 years.

Mike was a businessman but his main purpose in life was helping others. He founded the Asian American Group (AAG) more than 25 years ago. Mike was committed to helping the underserved community and he led others in many community service projects over the years. Mike and his team donated thousands of turkeys and toys each year to elementary students in North Las Vegas during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Mike was also a political activist and he supported candidates that aligned with AAG’s mission to preserve Asian culture and make Las Vegas a more inclusive community. Mike’s legacy will continue under the leadership of Rita, Dennis Rucker, Harry Singh, and the AAG Board members. His final wish was fulfilled when his organs were donated to the Nevada Donor Network and his brain tissue given for Alzheimer’s research.

After a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, Mike died peacefully at home on July 31, 2022 with his family by his side. He was showered with blessings until his final breath. He is now reunited with his parents, sister Seema and brother Kishore. He will be deeply missed by his wife Rita, son and daughter-in-law Sanjay and Soni, daughter and son-in-law Bindiya and Francis, grandchildren Ishaan, Simran, Zaara and Amani, sisters Pushpa, Rajni, and Nalini, brother Prakash, extended family and friends, as well as the entire Las Vegas and AAG community.

A funeral service for Mike will be held Sunday, August 7, 2022 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Palm Downtown Mortuary, 1325 North Main St, Las Vegas, NV 89101.
