Maria Carney, age 74 passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020. Maria was born August 30, 1945 in Bronx, New York.

Maria was born in The Bronx borough New York City, New York on August 30, 1945. Her father and mother were born and grew up in Italy and migrated to the United States in the late 1930s. Her mother was a seamstress and her father ran a restaurant and did small construction work for the business owners/tenants around their residence. She had three brothers and many cousins, aunts and uncles that were a big part of her childhood. From large family dinners, to going over for cookies after school to relatives homes to just spending time with each other sitting around the table playing cards. That family first mindset carried throughout Maria's life and she was happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren and her great grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Moppy". When she was a teenager, her mother and father moved to Southern California where she went to Alhambra High School. It was in California that she met and married the love of her life, David Carney (affectionately called Boppy). Together, they had two children, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Moppy loved holidays, especially Christmas, where she went all out with decorations, presents and food. The most important thing to her was to make special and happy memories for the children. Maria loved playing cards. Her favorite game was blackjack and, when she and David moved to Las Vegas in 1996, she made many friends while trying her luck at cards. When her extended family and friends came to town she loved taking them to the casino and showing them how to play blackjack "her way". Family gatherings were typically at Moppy and Boppy's house and she made everyone feel welcome. Maria was strong, loyal and a fighter. She selflessly gave her love and time to her family while beating breast cancer twice, having both knees replaced, having hip arthritis and managing her diabetes. She loved shopping, cooking, making Christmas stockings for the family and being available to all her family and friends for advice and support. She was incredibly generous of her time and of herself and was known to be the type of person to give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. She was great with numbers and spent many years as an accountant for engineering companies while living in California. She will be missed greatly by her husband of 55 years, David Carney, her daughter Dana Bollman, her grandchildren Chris Carney and his wife Angelina, Gena Yamashita, Corrin Carney, Matthew Carney and Meagan Faubion, by her great grandchildren Ayden, Ace, Alani, Lucas and Logan and by so many cousins, second cousins, aunts, uncles and friends she has made over the years.

A visitation for Maria will be held Friday, July 31, 2020 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89129.

My deepest sympathy to the Carney family and all who knew and loved Marie. It was such a blessing growing up next door and sharing in such fun times together. Marie was always so kind and welcoming whenever we wanted to go swimming, when Dana and I would watch movies in the den, and just hanging out by the fence when passing a cup of sugar or just to chat a while. Sharing life’s events together changed when they moved to Vegas, but I’m so thankful my mom and I had a visit with Marie, Dave and Dana two years ago as it was like old times gathering at the fence. Marie had a loving smile, a great laugh and a loving heart. She will be dearly missed.

Met my dearest friend when we both were waiting outside the kindergarten area to pick up our girls Dana & Carey. We became instant friends then introduced Dave & Steve and the rest is history. Basically adult lifetime friends. Marie felt like my sister with all the love and trust between us that sisters share. She has left a huge hole in our hearts but she enriched our lives. I'll miss her terribly. I know she has already found Steve and they have shared a hug and laughs. Rest in peace Marie.

Marie was my neighbor growing up. The Carney’s always let us use their pool. She would come out to check on me and my sisters. I remember chatting and laughing a lot! We also had many talks across our gate. They were like family to us! She was a sweet and kind lady. We sure did miss the family when they move to Vegas!

I will miss our long text about things. How the family’s are doing, about all the kids and grandkids, which she loved talking about. I have dearly missed the Cole reunions in Vegas and seeing all the family. Marie, you will always be in my heart and I will always remember what a wonderful time we had when we got together.
