Marietta was born on Nov 16, 1953, in St Louis, Mo to Stuart and Helen Nelson, she was the youngest of six daughters. After graduating from high school, she put herself through college and medical school with a music scholarship where she played saxophone in the Georgia State University Marching Band. She then received her MD from the Medical College of Georgia and did residencies at Boston University and UC San Diego and became a board-certified physician in both Pediatrics and Ophthalmology. She created an exemplary medical practice and was the owner of Eye Clinic of Las Vegas until her retirement in 2021. A natural leader, Marietta was also active in State and National medical issues. She was President of the Clark Co. Medical Assoc. 1995-96, a Nevada delegate to the American Medical Assoc., and President of the Nevada AMA 2000-01, Marietta was also an accomplished teacher and lectured at TOURO Univ of NV Medical School where she received the Outstanding Community Professor Award. She also received The Harold Lee Fickes award as Physician of the Year from the Clark Co. Medical Assoc in 1998, the Robert Shreck Medical Award for AMA Leadership in 2012, and the Healthcare Lifetime Achievement Award from the State of Nevada in 2006 which states in part “recognizes remarkable individuals who have made a significant contribution to healthcare in Nevada and distinguishes her as a Healthcare Hero in our So. Nevada Community.” There were so many awards, too numerous to mention, and she was known to always be a reluctant recipient. She always thought her greatest achievement was her son, Dr. Neal Ekpoudia, her daughter RN Iboro Ekpoudia and her four grandchildren on whom she doted. She is survived by her husband, Gregory Minden, LT Col USAF, Ret, son, Neal, daughter Iboro and her four grandchildren, Adira, Kwame, Bria and Isaac.
