

Marjorie Trendell Ross passed away peacefully at Silver Sky Assisted Living in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, May 21, 2017. She was born to William B. and Rosina Thomas Trendell on August 3, 1923 in Syracuse, NY. Marjorie grew up with five brothers in East Syracuse, NY and graduated in 1941 from East Syracuse High School. She received her R.N. credentials from Crouse Irving Hospital School of Nursing in Syracuse. She served in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during World War II. After the war, Marjorie joined the Naval Reserves and entered Syracuse University School of Nursing Education. Upon graduation, she was recalled to active duty in the Navy and served during the Korean War. She was assigned to the Navy hospital ship, U.S.S. REPOSE, and saw active duty off Inchon, Korea where the Navy had instituted a new practice of evacuating some of the wounded directly from the battle front to the ship by helicopter. After her active naval duty, she continued practicing nursing at Bethesda Naval Hospital and the National Institutes of Health. She earned a Master’s degree in Nursing Education from the University of Maryland and taught at Shenandoah College in Virginia. Subsequently, Marjorie was married to David Ross and moved to Las Vegas where she pursued other nursing assignments at the University Medical Center and Valley Hospital until her retirement. She held the rank of Commander from the Naval Reserve. Marjorie began her musical avocation in childhood playing the piano and studying voice. She played for Sunday services aboard ship. When in Maryland and Virginia she sang with several Episcopal Church choirs. In Las Vegas she was an active member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church where she was a regular member of the choir for over 30 years, singing her last service on Christmas Eve of 2016. She was also an active member of the Retired Officers Association and the Las Vegas Council of the Navy League until her death. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, David, a sister Frances Mary, brothers Harold and Charles of East Syracuse, NY, and William of Portland, OR. She is survived by brothers Albert of Minoa, NY, Frank of Oswego, NY and many nieces, and nephews. A Memorial Requiem Eucharist of the Resurrection in Thanksgiving for Marjorie’s life will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 4201 W. Washington, Las Vegas, NV at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 17th. A light Luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Marjorie may be given to All Saints’ Episcopal Church. Her ashes will be scattered at Palm Eastern Cemetery that afternoon at 3:00 P.M.
