While he may be known to many as Chef, his passion went well beyond culinary, he was a devoted father, brother, and friend.

Quinn, their daughter Jackson, his siblings Margaret (Mike) Khoury, Michael (Mary Murphy), Charles, Alec, Eric, and Sarah, many nieces and nephews and ex-spouse Shahn Douglas.

Mark enjoyed hunting with his older brother as a teenager; if truth be told he was not great at building or cooking over campfires. After taking three antelopes and two mule deer they decided to field dress and butcher – Mark almost cut his thumb off. Good thing he went to culinary school.

His delight was developing new restaurant concepts. Being a perfectionist, he strived to deliver an experience that romanced guests with extraordinary food, exceptional service in a lovely atmosphere. "Cheap is Expensive” was his motto, no detail was overlooked. His most recent restaurant opening was Naxos Traverna at Red Rock Casino. Previously he served as Executive Chef with Wolfgang Puck Worldwide, he was Chef at many restaurants including Starr Restaurant Group, TAO, and TRU. Mark’s legacy and passion will live on in the in those he mentored.
Beyond the kitchen the brightest light of his life was his daughter Jackson. His free time centered around spending time with her. He delighted in watching his daughter play in tide pools, ski, and attend hockey games. He relished catching the Taylor Swift concert with her and enjoying a burger at her favorite spot.
Mark loved life and dared to follow his dreams. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his hometown of Clarendon Hills, Illinois.
